Under the management of Chairman and CEO Jack Welch, General Electric Co. has transformed itself from a monolithic structure serving its domestic market into an international presence. Group profit reached $5.9 billion in 1994, from $1.5 billion in the early 1980s. Welch's management style has a positive impact on the rest of GE's management team and his main principle of continuous improvement throughout the organisation, whatever its products, has made the conglomerate successful in all its markets. The next goal for GE is to become the world's most competitive company.
