Elektrarny Opatovice contributes to the protection of the environment
Article Abstract:
Elektrarny Opatovice (EOP) (Opatovice nad Labem, Czech Republic), power company, contributes to the protection of the environment. In 2000 the firm realized a project of the reconstruction of 15 local boiler houses to centralized heat supply stations with a supply of heat for 55,000 households in Hradec Kralove, the Czech Republic. EOP stopped to discharge about 168,310 t of SO2 per year and 154,678 t of solid particles per year due to the step. EOP was awarded the first prize within the Prizes of Health and the Safe Environment by Business Leaders Forum CR (Czech Republic) for the project. EOP is an important independent Czech electric power producer. Only about 16.5% of the necessary electric power are produced by the centralized system of heat and hot water supplies in the Czech Republic. The share is low compared to countries with similar climatic conditions.
