Production strategies for a stochastic lot-sizing problem with constant capacity
Article Abstract:
A single item capacitated stochastic lot-sizing problem is analyzed. The model is motivated by a Dutch company operating in a Make-To-Order environment. The problem is modeled as a Markov Decision Process with discrete state and time space to compensate for uncertainty in amount and time of receipt of orders. The extension of a production heuristic proposed by Dellaert (1989) is appropriate for solving the problem, especially when production capacity is tight and demand variability is low.
