Aliachem expects a profit in 2001

Aliachem (Prague, Czech Republic), chemical company, expects to generate a profit of CEK 18 mil in 2001. In 2001 the firm plans to lower its administrative and fixed costs by 20%, about CEK 0.5 bil. It saw a loss of CEK 2.86 bil in 2000 compared to a loss of CEK 694.66 mil in 1999. The cause of the loss growth was the sale of shares for a lower price than the nominal value was. The company lost about CEK 1.139 bil on the sale of shares which it had to do to meet the requirements of the business code. Aliachem's cumulated loss is CEK 7.587 bil.

Conseq Finance (Prague, Czech Republic), bank trader in securities, saw a profit of CEK 20.6 mil for 1Q 2001 compared to a loss in a similar amount for 1Q 2000. The firm generated a turnover of CEK 371.5 mil for 1Q 2000. The total volume of the firm's transactions was CEK 103.5 bil for 1Q 2001. CEK 99.7 bil of the sum were represented by trade in bonds. The firm controlled assets worth CEK 3.7 bil for clients at the end of Mar 2001. Its clients are insurance companies, pension funds, municipalities and large industrial companies.
