The darker side of cuteness
Article Abstract:
Cuteness is valued in Japan, where women are often depicted as infantile, and child pornography is also common. The issue of child pornography does not seem to concern Japanese politicians, but there has been a drive to tighten legislation following an increase in schoolgirl prostitution. A bill aimed at tackling the problem looks set to become law, and tackles both child prostitution and child pornography, as well as the behavior of Japanese abroad. There are doubts as to how effective the new law will be.
