The degree of spillovers and the number of rivals for maximum effective R & D
Article Abstract:
Spillovers and competing firms have varied effects in oligopolies given product differentiation. Likewise, the cost of research and development (R & D) affects the nature of competitive effects. High R & D costs, coupled with more spillovers, lead to greater cost reduction and quasi-competition. Low R & D costs, on the other hand, lead to non-quasi competitive effects. Market entry in industries affects investment levels and consequently, controls output, profit and consumer surplus.
