The problem of imported species of insects or weeds that can freely feed on crops because they have no natural predator is being researched by the US Dept of Agriculture. Biological control calls for the importation of the pest's natural predators.

The fire ants are coming

Fire ants cause problems in the US, both economic and in terms of injuries to humans and to pets, and they are spreading. Soy-bean oil with pesticides, and parasitic flies are among the remedies used to tackle fire ants.
