The lonely charge of John McCain
Article Abstract:
John McCain is a presidential candidate seeking to win the nomination of the Republican party, and he has attacked some key members of his own party. He is seen as having political courage, and the religious right has not been attacked in this way before by a presidential candidate. McCain will have to deal with damage limitation should he win. while George W Bush will be in a similar position to someone surviving a takeover, if he manages to win. McCain is correct in arguing that Republican votes alone will not win the election.

The Kosovo test
Article Abstract:
Arizona senator, Republican John McCain, favors stronger US military action on Kosovo, Yugoslavia, including the usage of ground troops to perform whatever role may be necessary. Rival US presidential candidates from the Republican party may prefer an opposing view, and Pat Buchanan exemplifies the isolationist position. Al Gore of the Democrats may be able to take credit for success in Kosovo, and avoid blame if things do not go well. Domestic election issues are likely to be more important for the Republicans, and they include abortion.
