The tradition of the Japanese corporate warrior who would slave his life away for his company is giving way to a new breed of Japanese worker who wants more free time and a life outside the office. These new attitudes will radically change the way business is done in Japan.

The traditional Japanese concept of lifetime employment is under siege because of the lingering Japanese recession. Pioneer recently forced 35 older employees to accept early retirement, theoretically to force the remaining employees to work harder.
