The place to be
Article Abstract:
Asia is proving attractive to foreign investors because the region's currency problems have reduced operating costs. ABB has said that it is cutting back its western workforce and increasing its operations in Asia. Daimler-Benz also sees Asia as a potential growth market and it does not plan to reduce its sales or manufacturing operations. Daimler-Benz wants to increase it sales from 8% to between 20-25% by the year 2012. European companies may be worried about the current economic crisis but they are certain that Asia will manage to overcome its problems.

Article Abstract:
The European Union (EU) has changed its attitude towards trade with Asian countries, including Vietnam, which has dramatically increased its exports of footwear to the EU, to nearly 100 million pairs in 1996, versus 750,000 pairs in 1991. The EU Commission wants to meet officials in Vietnam to talk about the problem. The EU is keen for European-Asian relations to be good, and European exporters want the Commission to assist them to penetrate markets in Asia, but European footwear manufacturers are still protectionist.

Article Abstract:
The EC is cracking down on fake products flooding its markets from Asia and Eastern Europe. The new emphasis is on rapid action; trademark and copyright holders can go directly to customs authorities, who will have authority to quickly destroy fake goods. The counterfeit trade is growing rapidly; some estimate it cost Europe's software industry alone $4.6 billion in 1992. Counterfeiting within Europe remains a huge problem, especially in Italy.
