The quiet man
Article Abstract:
General Motors chairman, Jack Smith, faced a strike in summer 1998, and the company lacks capacity to keep up with demand for trucks in the US market. Yet new plants in Brazil, Poland and China could be part of a wider recovery for the company. Cheap parts can be sourced from Mexico following the disposal of Delphi Automotive, 20% of which has already been sold. Overmanning is still a problem, though this is likely to be slimmed by age.
