The race to succeed Delors
Article Abstract:
Delors and all 16 other European Commissioners face reappointment or firing in June. Their four-year terms, begun in 1988, expire this December. Delors may be called back to France and be appointed Prime Minister by the rapidly weakening Socialist Party. If not, he will likely be reappointed by the EC.

Toujours Delors?
Article Abstract:
Jacques Delors will probably be reappointed head of the European Commission even though he should be replaced. President since 1985, he has been a strong advocate of centralism. Now that Denmark has rejected the Maastricht treaty, he should be replaced by the more pragmatic Peter Sutherland.

Of mice and Major
Article Abstract:
Prime minister John Major's notion of appointing former Liberal Party leader Neil Kinnock as one of Britain's European commissioners is meeting with disapproval within his own party. It would not reflect well on Major if he can be easily persuaded to change his mind on this.
