The $100 billion ecu bond market has surprised many with its recent steps toward recovery. Many currency market investors expected the general economic malaise in Europe and the departure of two countries from the European exchange-rate mechanism to further harm the ecu bond market.

Interest rates for 30-day municipal bonds are at an all-time low, many yielding a little over 1% annually. Bond issuers will call in as much as $15 billion worth of bonds on Jul 1, 1992. The bonds were issued during 1982, when interest rates were at a peak.
