Russia's failure in Chechnya has brought to a crisis the division in Russian politics between reformers and nationalists. The people want stability and order and do not care whether they have democracy. Ultra-nationalists like Dmitri Vasiliev and Vladimir Zhirinovsky may use this sentiment to their advantage.
