The skidding oil patch
Article Abstract:
The drop in petroleum prices has hit producers in Texas and Oklahoma. Producers have had to sell petroleum and prices below the cost of production. This is a particular problem for small producers, and for the towns which depend on the industry. The population has shrunk in many towns, and the tax base has been hit, which has affected public services. Exploration has been affected, and this could have a permanent impact on the economies of small towns, though much of Texas has diversified into microchips.
