Rodeos, which originated in the US in the 1800s, are flourishing and changing. After 100 years of activity, there is an increasing number of women participants and college competitions, with the injured permitted to wear helmets and flack jackets. Rodeos are also increasingly expensive.

South Africa wants to host the 2004 Summer Olympics in the city of Cape Town. Sports are taken very seriously in South Africa and how their national teams do not only has a great effect on national self-esteem but also has great political significance.
