The unique alliance coaxing Taiwan's biotech industry into existence
Article Abstract:
The Taiwanese government has enacted a well-orchestrated plan to coax industries into investing in research and development in biotechnology in an attempt to claim a share of the growing international biotechnology markets. Several other Asian countries also hope to gain a share in this market through stepped-up research and development, but it is believed Taiwan has an advantage in that it has access to a higher number of university life-science graduates, a larger number of senior scientists, and a carefully crafted plan supporting private investment in research and development. The Taiwanese government's incentive program and the help the Taiwanese biotech firms have received from French researchers are described.

On the existence of franchise contracts and some of their applications
Article Abstract:
An analysis of franchise contracts is presented. The analysis considers the franchising problem as a contractual agreement between a principal and multiple agents. These agents develop a contract which defines revenue shares, expenditure levels and units to be enfranchised. It is shown that a common contract sets non-linear conditions. In addition, franchisors consider such a contract as optimal.
