The Washington, DC, round of middle East Peace Talks failed to make headway despite promising advance work by the US. Israel, Syria and the Palestinians blamed Warren Christopher and the US team for tactless compromises and for getting distracted by the Bosnian crisis.

The shadow over King Hussein: Arab-Israeli peace talks

The Middle East peace talks are unexpectedly going much smoother between Israel and Syria and the Palestinians than they are between Israel and Jordan. Jordan's King Hussein is concerned that the creation of a Palestinian state could lead to his downfall.
