Second thoughts: Murdoch's Japan plans hit a wall-or do they?
Article Abstract:
Rupert Murdoch and partner, Softbank Corp president Masayoshi Son, have announced their intention to sell their share in TV Asahi, only nine months after it was purchased, to Asahi Shimbun, newspaper publisher. Murdoch's entry into the Japanese television network was seen as a watershed for foreign participation, and the stake was to have been used to secure programming for JSkyB, the new digital TV venture. However this would have meant conflict with Asahi Shimbun and there were obstacles over Murdoch's business strategy.
