Thomson shares dive after loss report

Thomson Travel Group PLC posted a loss during the first-half of 1999. As a result of the negative results, the group saw its share value fall by almost 19%. Thomson stated that its profits for the entire 1999 year would be much lower-than-expected. Overcapacity in September and October was the reasons for the loss, according to the group. Thomson posted 5.1 million pound sterling (8 million euros) in pretax losses for the period.

Bovis float moved up as P&O net swells

Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co. (P&O) posted an increase of 32% in its pretax profits for the 1999 first-half. The company posted 183.1 million pounds ($294.4 million) in pretax profits for the period. In addition, Bovis Construction's floatation has been moved forward to October 1999. Bovis is a subsidiary of P&O.

Arriva's pretax profit beats expectations
