The head of the Securities and Exchange Commission of the Philippines, Perfecto Yasay, is retiring, while a financial scandal has led to a drop in Philippine stock prices and deterred foreign investors. Stock exchange investigators claim that businessman, Dante Tan, has acquired stocks in BW Resources and not declared this, and planning a merger between BW and one of his own firms, as well as faking transactions with stockbrokers to push up BW stock volumes. There was pressure on investigators not to go too deeply into the issue.
