To the hustings
Article Abstract:
Health care looks set to be a major issueon US elections of Nov 1998'. Managed-care plans' account for around 85% of insured workers. There have been a number of media stories depicting health maintenance organizations as callous in their attitude toward cost control. The Democrats released a plan for a patients' bill of rights in Mar 1998, and the Republicans have responded with their own plan. Democrats argue that Republicans' limit on malpractice suits favors big business. The health care industry opposes both plans, and some 80% of those in managed care plans are happy with their care.
