Old technology finds a welcome new lease of life
Article Abstract:
Arinc of the US is positioning its GLOBALink high frequency (HF) datalink service as a low-cost, long-range alternative to satellite-based datalink services for aircraft communications. The opening of commercial routes over the North Pole has made HF technology the superior voice communications backbone until Iridium's decision to launch another 24 satellites. There are currently 11 GLOBALink customers, including Americn Airlines, Continental Airlines and Cathay Pacific.

Honeywell wins the first LAAS orders
Article Abstract:
Honeywell Airport Systems and Pelorus Navigation Systems have launched the latest version of their satellite landing system, called the SLS-3000. The equipment has been developed to meet Federal Aviation Authority and international standards as a local Area Augmentatio System. It offers differential global positioning system navigational guidance for all phases of flight operations including landing, departure, approach and missed-approach procedures.
