Traveller's tales
Article Abstract:
The Sultan of Brunei's 46th birthday celebration once again highlighted the veneration accorded by the citizens of the state to their ruler. The merrymaking that was held everywhere on the day was culminated by the royal parade which gave the people the chance to kiss theSultan's hand. The Sultan's rise to power at the age of 21 was instigated by the British when they still ruled the nation. The British believed the Sultan would be more subservient to their wishes than his father, Omar Ali Saifuddien, whom he replaced. Ironically, the Sultan was later responsible for the expulsion from the Brunei Investment Agency of its British managers.

Traveller's tales
Article Abstract:
The town of Stung Treng, Cambodia, is situated 280 miles upriver from Phnom Penh. Its eastern jungles remain inhabited by elephants and tigers, even as their population around the country dwindle, victims of mines and hunters. Since mid-1992, Stung Treng has served as home to the Uruguayan contingent of the UN Transitional Authority in Cambodia. As the largest foreign influence in the town, the Uruguayan army members have established friendly relations with the town's population.
