Traveller's tales
Article Abstract:
Korgas Pass, the border checkpoint between China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Kazakhstan, is the point of entry for traders and visitors from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kirgyzstan and other Central Asian republics. Money changing and buying activities are a common sight at Korgas Pass, but the most intense market activity can be observed all over the city of Kashgar, a three-day bus journey from the border. The flood of traders and tourists is the result of the Chinese government's decision to open border passes in May 1992.

Traveller's tales
Article Abstract:
Tourism has become an important source of income for the Yao tribespeople who inhabit the village of Pha Dua in Thailand. This income enabled them to stop cultivating opium as the government pressured them to do. Moreover, tourism prevented the deforestation that would result if the Yao had to make their living entirely by agriculture. Tourism has strengthened rather than weakened traditional Yao culture. However, a looming danger is the development of Yao land for hotels and resorts.
