Trimble's gamble
Article Abstract:
There have been a number of setbacks in the Northern Ireland peace process, but it has revived a number of times, and Senator George Mitchell appears to have succeeded in reviving the process yet again. Ulster Unionist head, David Trimble, has abandoned a position whereby he refused to join Sinn Fein in government without a disarmament agreement. Sinn Fein leader, Gerry Adams, has agreed to disarmament, and discussions to carry this out will start when power jas been devolved. Trimble is taking a gamble, though he should benefits from the agreement.
