Trouble shoot: the phone is your best weapon when your PC fails
Article Abstract:
The most common problems with computers are often simply related to their complexity, according to Brenda Ng, a helpline operator for IBM computer users in Hong Kong. It is important to buy a reputable brand of computer and to determine whether there are help services. Common problems are conflicts between hardware and software, and setting up machines for the Internet. Most software suppliers provide a help line, but it is also important to practise on the computer and even take a computer course.

Plugging away
Article Abstract:
The problem of unstandardized plugs and sockets for computer modems and electrical sockets may be corrected by proper research and planning before traveling. A good tool in researching which hotels offer sockets that fit is the World Wide Phone Guide, an Internet page that offers a compilation of socket types and where they may be found. The Internet page (http://www.cris.com/~kropla/phones.htm) is a compilation by Steve Kropla and also offers hints on how to tap directly into the phone line.

Tender loving care: PCs need constant attention to do their best
Article Abstract:
PCs require regular and sensible care, such as backing up files so that important documents are kept somewhere apart from the hard disk drive. A Zip drive can store around 70 floppy disks' worth of data and can connect directly to the PC. Physical cleaning is required including screens and floppy disk drives. Viruses can damage hardware and destroy data and anti-virus software is often supplied with new computers, but it must be kept up to date.
