A theory of the Case
Article Abstract:
Steve Case has been able to change his business tactics in line with circumstances. He is a former marketing executive from Pizza Hut, and America Online (AOL) grew from Control Video Corp. AOL's marketing innovations and its populism helped it to attract customers. The service was reassuring even to technophobes, and AOL has become the most important player on the World Wide Web. AOL's content and services account for almost 40% of time spent by Americans on the web, and nealry three-quarters of the time of AOL members. Case has been able to cater for ordinary people's needs.

Pricks and kicks
Article Abstract:
America Online (AOL) has grown in terms of subscribers and revenue and has set up an alliance with Sun Microsystems as well as buying Netscape. The company aims to be a major player in the electronic commerce market, and the armed truce that existed between AOL and Microsoft has ended. The extent to which Microsoft can erode AOL's market depends partly on how much Microsoft invests in this. The development of broadband could also affect AOL, though this is seen as an add-on to dial-up by AOL.
