The British government's championing of environmental measures seem to be at an all time low. Only 3% of the public polled, consider green issues of great importance. Major environmental policy battles loom over the opening of a new nuclear energy plant, and the widening of a superhighway.

Pure folly: water
Article Abstract:
British Office of Water Services director Ian Byatt claimed that water-rate increases necessary to pay for government directives on improved water and sewage treatment would overburden consumers. A tight EC-mandated schedule for sewage improvement causes high costs.
