Two sharks in a fishbowl
Article Abstract:
Viacom aims to acquire CBS for $36 billion, and both companies have seen rises in their stock prices following the announcement of the deal. A similar deal announced in 1995 also led to stock price rises for the companies concerned, but Disney's acquisition of Capital Cities/ABC is no longer ween in such rosy terms. Viacom and CBS were previously part of the same company and were separated in 1970 when networks were not permitted to own production facilities.
