UB TO INCREASE BEER CAPACITY
Article Abstract:
United Breweries (UB) plans to increase its market share in beer from the present 41.25 percent by augmenting its brewing capacity by another 1.2 million dozen cases from the present 2.6 million dozen cases per month. This will increase its total capacity to almost four million dozen cases per month. The capacity of Bombay Breweries will be enhanced to half a million dozen cases per month and the capacity of Karnataka Breweries and Distilleries Ltd will also be enhanced to half a million dozen cases per month. In the case of Bombay Breweries, investments for the expansion programme will be borne by UB with a direct investment of Rs16-17 crore. In the other project, investment will be through partners of the group. (gsh)

United Breweries Ltd (UBL) proposes to extend its Kingfisher brand to leisure-wear, like T-shirts and Bermudas. It proposes to use its network in various cities to market these products. UBL is using the Kingfisher brand to sponsor sports. It has also used the brand name for its mineral water. UBL seems to have gained from its decision to promote the East Bengal soccer team as the sales of the brand has increased 5 times. (ag)

SWC GUZZLES 22% BEER MARKETSHARE

Shaw Wallace & Company has managed to take a 22 percent share of the domestic Rs2160 crore beer market. The company hopes to sell 18 million cases of beer in 1998-99. It acquired five breweries in the mid 1990s and entered into manufacturing alliances with ten more breweries. (khr)
