UBI NET PROFIT UP AT Rs250 CRORE
Article Abstract:
The net profit of Union Bank of India increased by 15.74 percent to Rs250 crore in 1997-98 (Rs216 crore in 1996-97). Its gross profit increased to Rs350 crore (Rs342 crore) while its non- performing assets increased to 7.66 percent (7 percent). Deposits increased by 15.25 percent to Rs23,056 crore (Rs20,005 crore). Its advances increased by 12.24 percent to Rs10,684 crore (Rs9,516 crore). Investments increased to Rs9,230 crore (Rs7,861 crore). The bank's capital adequacy ratio is estimated at 10.86 percent in 1997-98 (10.53 percent). (khr)

TVS SUZUKI TO GO IN FOR Rs250 CR MODERNISATION

TVS Suzuki Ltd (TSL) plans to invest Rs250 crore for modernising its plants during 1998-99. It has invested Rs170 crore on its new scooter manufacturing plant near Mysore. It proposes to invest Rs80 crore for modernising plants, quality improvement and capacity expansion. TSL plans to increase the capacity of the Mysore plant from 1.4 lakh scooters per annum to 5 lakh scooters per annum at a cost of Rs50-60 crore. Its existing plant at Hosur will be upgraded to manufacture motor bikes. The plant currently produces 7.5 lakh vehicles per year. (gs)

WARBURG DILLON FUND PUTS Rs250 CR INTO IDBI BONDS

43The $350 million proprietary India Debt Fund of Warburg Dillon Read (WDR) has put Rs250 crore in the unsecured 7-year bonds of the Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI) through a straight private placement deal. This is the biggest investment deal made by a foreign institutional investor debt fund after they were permitted to invest in the domestic markets by the Securities and Exchange Board of India. The investment by WDR reflects on its strong confidence in the Indian rupee. (khr)
