UK: Baring offers Isa connected to European trust

The minimum lump sum investment in Baring Asset Management's new Isa is GBu 3,000, with an initial charge for both mini and maxi Isa of 0.2%. The Isa is connected with the GBu 117mn Baring Emerging European investment trust, which expanded by 83.2% in the three years to October 17, 2001. Russia accounts for more than 30% of the trust's investment, with Central Europe taking almost 60%. The Isa will pay up to 3% initial and 0.5% trail commission.

UK: SCOTTISH FRIENDLY'S FUNDS INCREASE

Scottish Friendly's funds under management increased by 11%, or GBu 31mn, in 2000. Sales of its Isa grew 152% to GBu 5.6mn, while sales overall increased 21% to GBu 15.5mn compared with the life assurance industry's 1% average decline, claims the mutual. Much of the growth in life business is attributed to its successful marketing of tax-free friendly society plans, with parents starting to save earlier for their children's higher education.

UK: Booklet for financial services from Ombudsman
Article Abstract:
Walter Merricks, chief financial ombudsman, has published a booklet discussing his role in solving disputes and how complaints should be handled before he is called in. The publication, for building societies, banks, insurers and financial advisers aims to assist firms in their relations with the ombudsman and make the process less of a mystery. There is a mailing list for publications from the ombudsman service.
