UK: Few firms focus on social responsibility
Article Abstract:
It is rare for UK firms to have established clear policies with regard to governance and risk management of environmental and ethical issues, according to Friends, Ivory & Sime and SustainAbility. The majority of companies are not complying with Association of British Insurers guidelines on corporate social responsibility, which indicate that a company's annual report should state whether the board regularly looks at the impact of environmental, social and ethical risks. SustainAbility's Peter Zollinger warns that shareholders and corporate boards must look more closely at how non-traditional risks could influence the firm's business strategies.
