UK turret contender lines up for VCBI
Article Abstract:
UK company Helio has landed a contract from the French DGA (Delegation pour l'Armement) to conduct a test of its FVT925 turret for the VCBI (Vehicule Blinde Combat d'Infanterie) requirement. Helio, which is competing with GIAT for a contract to provide three pre-production units, is offering the FVT925 turret equipped with an M242 25mm cannon on an Alvis Scorpion against GIAT's Draggar turret. The one-man, 1,200-kg FVT925 was designed to provide full protection against NATO 7.62x51mm AP rounds from 30m, and NATO 5.56x45mm AP rounds at point blank range, while offering 90% immunity against 155mm HE TNT overhead shell burst at 30m.
