UNIT 2 OF RAPS RESTARTS AFTER REPAIR
Article Abstract:
Rajasthan Atomic Power Station's (RAPS) 200 mw Unit 2 has started functioning after the replacement of coolant channels and completion of safety upgradation. The unit was closed down in August 1994. The Unit 2 will come to full power by the first week of June 1998. Two more units of 220 mw each will be set up. The replacement of channels was done indigenously. The power station was shut down in August 1994. The coolant tubes were made at the Nuclear Fuel Complex in Hyderabad and tools for in-service inspection were made by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and Nuclear Power Corporation. (rk)

L&T OUT OF RACE FOR HMT UNIT, TO PLOUGH WITH JOHN DEERE

Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T), the engineering conglomerate plans to collaborate with John Deere of the US to form a joint venture to manufacture tractors. The company has acquired lands at Sanaswadi near Pune to set up a greenfield plant to manufacture tractors in the 35 hp, 50 hp and 60 hp range. L&T which had earlier planned to bid for HMT Ltd's tractor unit has now decided against it. The government is planning to divest up to 74 percent stake in HMT's tractor unit and plans to float a fresh tender for the purpose. L&T's new unit will roll out its tractors by late 1999 of year 2000. (gs)

SPATIAL TECH TO SET UP SOFTWARE UNIT IN VEPZ
Article Abstract:
The Visakhapatnam Export Processing Zone (VEPZ) will be housing the new software export unit of Spatial Technologies of Hyderabad. Spatial Technologies has selected the VPEZ as it offers various facilities such as 2 Mbps optical fibre link between the zone and the software technology park earth station in Hyderabad. Spatial Technologies also proposes to introduce Spatial GIS in the global market by April 1999. (ag)
