UPASI - EMERGING TRENDS IN CONSUMER MARKETING
Article Abstract:
With the consumer emerging as the ultimate decider for the success of a product in the market, new trends are have come up in the consumer marketing sector. The service provider is now creating an opportunity to satisfy the customer through dedicated and excellent service, quality products, continuous dialogue and other potential customer motivators. Higher marketing opportunities are being created with the emergence of the new upper middle class having a higher disposable income. The marketing trends have been recently affected by rising awareness in the society on consumer rights and protection. To remain competitive, the companies are offering new customer services like interactive kiosks, web-sites, telephone helplines, write-in services, consumer advisory cells and informercials on TV. To launch an interactive marketing strategy, the companies have to go in for enterprise resource planning, integrated marketing plan, value engineering, cross functional teamwork and an open-minded SOT analysis for a planned transition of the company itself. NO SCOTCH PLEASE, JUST DARJEELING
Article Abstract:
The 72 tea estates in Darjeeling produce 10 million kilograms (kg) to 11 million kg of tea annually. But about 40 million kg of Darjeeling tea are sold in international markets. Tea produced in other regions are sold as Darjeeling tea causing harm to the unique brand. This is because Darjeeling tea does not enjoy patent protection based on geographical appellation as in the case of scotch whisky. The Tea Board of India tried to prevent the plagiarisation of Darjeeling tea by making it compulsory for all companies marketing the tea to have the Tea Board's approval and Tea Logo on their packaging. However, only companies operating in India adhered to the rule, while tea produced in other regions continue to be sold globally as Darjeeling tea. The patent protection to the brand would also set right the malaise afflicting the tea industry in Darjeeling.(uh)(m)
