The biotechnological company Genencor International, which is owned by Eastman Chemical Company and the Danish group Danisco, has applied for a Stock Exchange quotation in the US. The aim is to generate capital for future R&D. Genencor International has its headquarters in California. The company develops products for the agricultural sector, the chemical industry and the health care sector.

The Danish biotechnology sector is gaining ground in Europe. This emerges from Ernst & Young's Life Science report for 2000. Denmark's 70 biotechnology companies are among the most productive in Europe; 28 of the 278 products that the European biotechnology companies have in pipeline come from Danish companies. Denmark is surpassed by the UK alone with 128 products in the pipeline.
