U.S.-Korean cellular consortium says ministry's demands could delay service
Article Abstract:
Shinsegi Telecom Inc. (Shinsegi) has urged the Korean government to abandon its insistence on state-of-the-art digital technology, warning that further delay on the matter could seriously jeopardize the venture. The Korean government is insisting that Shinsegi utilize code divisional multiple access (CDMA) technology in its cellular network to give it an edge over Japanese and other rival countries. However, Shinsegi executives state that such a requirement is not realistic since CDMA is not yet commercially viable.

Korean Mobile Telecom gets reprieve from its rival in digital cellular service
Article Abstract:
Korea Mobile Telecom (KMT) is not expected to lose its monopoly of the telecommunications market in South Korea even with the entry of Shinsegi Telecomm via its code division multiple access (CDMA) network on Jan. 1, 1996. This is because KMT is also set to launch its own CDMA network at about the same time. KMT is expected to enjoy a headstart, though, since it only has to convert its analog system to digital technology to offer CDMA technology, while Shinsegi Telecomm has to depend solely on CDMA for its network.
