US resurrects satellite trials
Article Abstract:
The US Federal Aviation Administration has again revived its free flight program after the US Congress did not authorize the agency's budget request for the project. Now known as Safe Flight 21, or SF-21, the program will employ the same avionics to evaluate Free Flight concepts. SF-21, however, has major differences with its predecessor, Flight 2000. Participants in SF-21 now shoulder much of the program's cost and the partipation of general aviation is nominal.

The subcommittee's chairman John Duncan has warned that if Raytheon cannot deliver a viable system, the Federal Aviation Administration should find a contractor who can.
