University of Downing Street
Article Abstract:
The ruling Labor party has sought to develop links with academics in the United Kingdom, and prime minister, Tony Blair, has sought an intellectual justification for a pragmatic approach. London School of Economics (LSE) director, Anthony Giddens, is a key academic among those who advise the government, and the LSE itself has been an influential academic base. There are also critics among academics, who have a tradition of seeking to retain some independence, and a bid to enlist academics to support the government is bound to encounter some opposition.
