Update on cladding
Article Abstract:
Building cladding in changing to accommodate a more tactile trend in architecture. Computer and technological developments are also influential. Examples of the tactile movement include the Vals Thermal Baths, with its walls of stacked slates, and the Masam Residential Home for the Elderly, with its walls of concrete, larchwood and tufa. Examples of the technological influence include the Singapore Arts Centre, with its domes of constantly shifting aluminium shades, and the Melbourne Federation Square Arts Centre, with its fractal-geometry-based facade.
