Urban policy and the turn to community
Article Abstract:
Community involvement in urban planning has been welcomed as a method of solving local problems and implementing new strategies. The government approves of community participation in urban policy making as it fulfills its objectives of; decentralization, reducing costs and makes local authorities more accountable. The use of community can be problematic as it is not clearly defined which groups best represent the community as a whole and therefore some people are excluded from participating in policy making. When the community is consulted their actual involvement is often limited.

Realising regeneration benefits from urban infrastructure investment: lessons from Sheffield in the 1990s
Article Abstract:
Sheffield, England, has undergone a period of regeneration since the 1980s, following years of industrial decline. It is not possible to establish clear links between the 450 million pounds sterling investment into Sheffield's communications and transportation networks during 1991-1996, and economic improvements within the city. Experts suggest a good road system is necessary to assist urban redevelopment but it is not the main cause of regeneration. National policies, such as job creation schemes, and a strong economy are vital components for urban regeneration.
