VERIFONE UNVEILS NET COMMERCE STRATEGY FOR INDIA

Verifone unveiled an Internet commerce plan for India on August 18, 1998 which proposes to make Internet shopping accessible at street corners. The company plans to lease its Internet commerce products and bring together a consortium of Web hosting firms, telecom firms, system integrators and government agencies to offer a one-stop shop for solutions. The company has introduced its vSUITE product range in the country, which enables secure Internet payments. (khr)

CLEARSHIP GROUP LAUNCHES INFOTRANS SOLUTIONS

Clearship Group of Mumbai has launched Infotrans, an end-to-end freight logistic solutions system using Internet. The solution has been developed indigenously. The system creates an information highway around the world to offer on-line assistance to its customers 24 hours a day. C-DAC LAUNCHES FREE INDIAN LANGUAGE E-MAIL SERVICE ON WEB

The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Pune, has introduced a free Internet based Indian language electronic mail (e-mail) service on February 2, 1999. The e-mail service is named Gistmail. The service is available in Hindi and Marathi initially. Users can register free on C-DAC's site in World Wide Web for their addresses. Gistmail service is similar to Hotmail, Rocketmail and Yahoomail. (rk)(vr)
