SANTRO DRIVES INTO THE FAST LANE WITH 15,470 ORDERS

The booking for the Santro car from Hyundai Motor India (HMI) opened on October 8 and closed on October 12, 1998. It received booking orders for 15,470 cars at full payment of Rs299,000 each. The northern region accounted for 5,507 cars and 5,061 from the Southern India. The standard version accounted for 47 percent of the bookings. (rk)

HYUNDAI'S CAR PLANT IN TN COMMISSIONED

Hyundai Motor India (HMI) makes cars. HMI has commissioned its Rs2,300 crore passenger car plant at Irungattukottai, near Chennai. The plant will have a production capacity of 1.2 lakh cars per annum. It has been set up in a record 17 months. Nearly 91.32 percent of the total 1,238 workers in HMI are from Tamil Nadu. (gs)
