VW net profit jumps 77% on Western Europe sales
Article Abstract:
Volkswagen AG posted 77% higher net profits equivalent to 1.51 million marks, or $921 million, for the initial nine months of 1998 to surpass predictions by analysts. The company, which is the biggest automobile manufacturer in Europe, was expected to post 1.3 billion marks to 1.4 billion marks in net earnings. Enskilda Research auto analyst Lothar Lubinetzki believes that the company will only be threatened by decreasing demand in Western Europe because of an economic slowdown. Volkswagen intends to produce positive earnings for the fourth quarter of 1998.
