Version 3 IRIS gets the message across
Article Abstract:
Systematic Software Engineering of Denmark is developing version 3 of its IRIS defense messaging-tool, which is scheduled for launching by yearend 1999. The original IRIS product has been used to provide an automatic conversion facility that enables the concurrent use of differing military messaging formats in 18 NATO member states and three Partnership for Peace nations. Its new version has been Extensible Mark-up Language-enabled which permits formatted messages to be displayed in Web-browser form.

40mm CTA cannon selected for TRACER/FSCS demonstrators
Article Abstract:
The SIKA consortium and its rival Lancer consortium have declared their intention to adopt CTA International's 40mm CT2000 cannon for the Anglo-US TRACER/FSCS reconnaissance vehicle program. The TRACER ATD vehicle integration is scheduled to start in 2001. An accelerated joint qualification program has been agreed upon by the UK, France and the US. The agreement, which is expected to be signed in summer 2000, will enable qualification to be completed in 2001.

JEDI returns for JSCOPE's mini C2 system
Article Abstract:
Booz Allen and Hamilton Inc and Motorola Inc have jointly developed the world's smallest command and control system. The 4.8-lb (2.18 kg) system consists of a Windows CE-operated Philips Nino 320 palmtop computer and and Iridium satellite telephone with Joint Expedetionary Digital Information application software. The system is incorporated in a standard Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment vest and has ports for other peripheral devices.
