Vickers posts solid pretax profit, plans to focus on marine unit

Vickers PLC posted a 55.6 million pound sterling ($89.73 million) pretax profit for the 1998 year. However, the company's 1998 operating profits declined by 44% to 42.1 million pound sterling as a result of restructuring charges. Vickers also announced that it is planning to boost its marine unit. Pretax profits rose to 157 million pound sterling for the year. In 1997, Vicker's pretax profit was 19.4 million pound sterling.

TI Group reports 17% drop in profit
