Skandia reports huge profit increase in core business, but nonlife struggles

Skandia Group Forsakrings AB announced that its core operating profits in the first half of 1999 more than doubled. The group's operating profits more than doubled to 2.24 billion kronor (254.3 million euros) during the period. However, Skandia's nonlife insurance operations posted a drop in earnings. The group posted 1.02 billion kronor in operating profits during the first-half of 1998.
