Victoria's triumphant sale
Article Abstract:
A consortium headed by National Power has made a successful bid of $1.83 billion for the 1600MW Hazelwood generating plant in the Australian state of Victoria. Electricity privatisation in the state has now generated income of more than A$13 billion. There are now plans to sell the Newport and Jeeralang gas turbine generators, which supply 'peaking power' at times when demand is particularly high.

New investor selected for Polish power plant
Article Abstract:
The Polish Treasury has broken off negotions with National Power of the United Kingdom. National Power was to be the strategic investor for lignite-fired power plants in Poland. The conglomerate's demands were unacceptable to the Treasury which is now negotiating with a Polish American consortium led by Elektrim Poland's leading publicly traded industrial company.
